CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois will host the 2009 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships at Huff Hall this Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. CT. The Fighting Illini will welcome six other Big Ten teams, each vying for a chance to take home the conference crown. Illinois placed second last year, behind host Michigan, and is seeking its first conference title since 1990 on its home turf.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available through the UI Athletic Ticket Office (1-866-ILLINI-1). All tickets are general admission. There will be sections marked for each institution at the competition.
This year's competition promises to be one of the most competitive in history, as all seven teams are ranked in the nation's top-27, including the top-five packed tightly together between 13 and 17. Penn State leads the way at No. 13 and is followed closely by No. 15 Michigan and No. 16 Illinois, while Minnesota and Ohio State are deadlocked at No. 17 in the rankings.
