Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 23rd edition, junior Samantha Perino recaps the weekend meet against Michigan and provides a pair of cool videos.
Hey there Illini Fans,
The season is definitely starting to pick up and we are almost in the home stretch! This past weekend we competed at home against Michigan and got a 196.175. Sarah Schmidt had a beautiful floor routine and earned a 9.95 which tied the best score on floor in Illini history! Everyone else had a great meet as well including Mel with her solid beam routine earning a 9.875. Overall, we are improving every meet, but we also have room for more improvement in these last meets ahead of us. Our team score helped give us a ranking of 13th in the nation! We were all very excited to hear that, and I'm sure it will give us a little boost for the upcoming meet against Ohio State, which will once again be home and will also be on the Big Ten Network!! I think everyone would agree that the final meets of season are the most exciting and having two more meets at home is a great feeling.
I'm sure you are wondering how our Jock Jams routine went and it's safe to say we had a great time performing and in the end it looked awesome! We all wore matching bright neon tank tops and knee high socks to top it off! It was a great experience and it felt good to support the Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC). You can take a look at it on our official YouTube page: HERE. The Men's Gymnastics team had an amazing routine with tons of gymnastics and it also included their coaches Justin Spring and Ivan Ivankov. They went on to win the first Jock Jams title and it was well deserved!
You should also check out our new music video on fightingillini.com: HERE. Keep an eye out for Elise Gill and her sweet dance moves! I think everyone got a kick out of that, and it sure made my day! ;) Well I hope everyone has a fantastic week and definitely come out and support us at Huff on Saturday (2 p.m.) when we take on Ohio State!
Thanks for taking the time to read and GO ILLINI!
