Junior Lashlee Morris
Feb. 24, 2010
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 22nd edition, junior Lashlee Morris recaps the weekend at Minnesota, provides the team's secret for a successful meet (ice cream) and previews tonight's Jock Jams performance.
Hello Illini Fans!
I can't believe we're already half way done with our season! Eight meets down, six to go full steam ahead. We had an amazing weekend at Minnesota. Everyone was really on top of their game earning a team score of 196.325. Mel keeps trying to convince Bob it was because we had ice cream the night before the meet ;) Haha! The team had high energy throughout the meet, which always makes it more fun. We also had some fans in the crowd. All of Elise's club teammates came and made signs and plenty of noise. Elise's mom even made everyone a goodie box. I think we need to compete in Minnesota more often!
Although away meets are fun I know all the girls are excited to have a home meet this weekend. One, we love our home turf. All the parents, fans, I-Pride, the Illini Drum Line, etc. make such a difference! Two, everyone is super pumped about seeing Michigan. Everyone is becoming more consistent and confident in their routines.
Outside of the gym the team has been preparing for Illini Jock Jams 2010. Jock Jams is an event put on by The University of Illinois Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) to raise money for Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC). Each team presents an act, including things like skits and dances. We came up with a dance, thanks to our great choreographer Macy Hyatt, and incorporated some gymnastics to hopefully please the crowd.
That's all for now, thanks for reading and hope to see you on Saturday!!!
