Emily Lennon Wins First Freshman of the Week Award
Feb. 17, 2014
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Erin Buchanan is now not the only freshman to be recognized for her first year work in an Illinois leotard. The conference office announced Monday that Emily Lennon was the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for her outstanding performances at Penn State. This marks Lennon's first collegiate award and the first time in school history that two different freshmen have earned the weekly distinction in the same season.
Lennon once again competed on both vault and the balance beam last Saturday. The Calgary, Alberta native tied her career high 9.825 on vault, a score she set back on Jan. 31 vs. Iowa. Next, Lennon collected her first ever collegiate title with a career high 9.900 on beam. It was the fourth time through six meets Lennon tallied a 9.8 or higher on the apparatus.
Fans can catch Lennon and the rest of the No. 14 Fighting Illini Sunday, Feb. 23, when they host No. 23 Ohio State and No. 19 Central Michigan at 2 p.m. inside Huff Hall.
