Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this week's edition, freshman Lashlee Morris talks about last weekend's "Pink Meet" and everyone's excitement for this weekend's quad meet in Chicago.

    ----

    Hello Illini Fans,

It felt great to be back competing on our home turf. This past weekend we had our Pink Meet against the University of Denver. Bob surprised us with awesome new bright pink long-sleeved leos for the themed Pink Meet. It felt great wearing the pink leos for breast cancer awareness. We had a ton of fans show up supporting us and also wearing pink. The themed meet helped bring a lot of good energy.

Competition just isn't the same without Sarah in the line up, who is temporarily out with a sprained ankle. However, the team pulled together and had a much better competition as a whole. We started strong on vault with improvements on landings, helping us score our first 49.000 of the season. We carried that energy and strength over to bars and hit a season-high bar score. At this point in the meet we had a close lead on the University of Denver. On beam we had some really great performances, highlighted by four season highs (Nicole Cowart, Melissa Fernandez, Julie Crall, and myself,). Julie once again wrapped up the beam rotation by tying her career-high with a 9.900! We did have a few mistakes as well, which we are working very hard in the gym to correct. Floor also had some good things with a couple mistakes. Overall, the competition was much better than previous weekends and we came out with a score of 194.975.

Our meet this weekend is in Chicago against Stanford, Washington, and UCLA. It should produce a lot of good competition and will give our team another great opportunity to improve our scores. In addition, this meet will help to better prepare us for meets later in the season and making our goal of Nationals. A lot of the girls on the team are extra excited for this meet because many of their old club gymnastics teammates will be there cheering them on. It should make for a very exciting meet!

Please keep Sarah and Kimmie (stress reaction in her foot) in your prayers, we need them back competing in the line ups!

    Thanks for reading! Go Illini!!!
