Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 17th edition, senior Samantha Perino recaps the first home meet of the season and the snow day on campus.
Hello Illini Fans!
First off, I just want to thank all the fans who came out to Gym Jam Saturday at Huff Hall! The atmosphere in the gym was awesome and it was nice to have almost all of the parents in the crowd cheering us on! It is always fun to have the boys competing with us as well. It just brings that extra amount of excitement into the gym! We competed against the Iowa Hawkeyes and we ended up winning with a 194.775! It was a nice way to start off our home meets for this season!
These past two days have been really exciting in Champaign due to the winter storm! Starting Tuesday during practice, it started to snow and sleet quite a bit, and night classes ended up being canceled! It is always fun to practice while it is snowing outside because with all the large windows in Kenney Gym it feels like we are inside a giant snow globe! Later that night, the University sent out an e-mail saying that ALL Wednesday classes were canceled! There has not been a snow day on campus since 2007! Needless to say I feel like everyone thoroughly enjoyed their snow day, whether it was catching up on homework or just relaxing!
This weekend we have another home meet against Minnesota and Central Michigan, which will be held at Huff Hall at 5 p.m. It is our annual Pink Meet, which is one of our favorites, so I hope to see you all there!
Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!
