Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 19th edition, sophomore Kelsey Joannides recaps the Iowa meet and talks about the team's upcoming trip to Happy Valley.
Hi Illini Fans!
I hope everyone is doing well and keeping up with our exciting and eventful season so far! We are definitely coming off of a strong weekend from the University of Iowa and were anxious to get back into the gym upon our return. The team achieved a win out in Iowa with a season high score of 195.225, and it felt great to put on such a successful, clean performance on the road. Each week we have improved so much, and this week was no different.
Like always, spirits in the gym are high. The girls have been cranking out routines, perfecting skills, and getting more and more consistent every day! Since we travel often now, the number of practices we get during the weeks are less than they were in preseason. With that in mind, we are really being productive during workouts and making each day count. Our goals are set high for the next competition we'll face against Penn State, and the week is going to fly by as we head east to Happy Valley on Friday! It will be one more great opportunity to get another Big Ten win under our belts while preparing for championships in the coming weeks!
I know I am counting down the days until the meet because of all the people that will be there to cheer us on against the Nittany Lions! All of us "East Coasters" will get to see our friends and family who haven't quite been able to make it out to Huff Hall or the other away meets we've had so far. I am most looking forward for the girls to finally meet my sister. It will be her first experience at one of our meets!
But until then, we are all in the full swing of the spring semester. Staying on top of school work during season sure has kept us busy, but everyone is focused and working hard as usual! We are ready and excited for week #5 of competition and hope you are too! Thanks for checking in and GO ILLINI!!
