Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 18th edition, freshman Macy Hyatt recaps the team's first home meet, talks about the first week of classes and previews the Iowa meet on Saturday.

Hey Illini Fans!

This past weekend we had our first home meet of the season, and we had a great turnout as we took on Oklahoma. We ended up with over a thousand fans and we are excited to watch that number grow as we get further into the season. It was very exciting for the freshman to experience the energy and cheering of our friends and family. We all have been working very hard in the gym trying to perfect little things here and there, and it is definitely starting to show in competition. There were quite a few parents that also came to support us last weekend. It's always good to see familiar faces and the parents also have a good time going to Firehaus together before the meet.

I have finally adjusted to my new class schedule and have not had to use a map or write the room numbers on the back of my hand so I don't walk into the wrong class this week! I have chemistry with Elise and it is really fun seeing her in a class everyday. The rest of my classes are going well and the weeks are getting busier as they come. It is hard to believe that we will begin studying for midterms sooner than we know.

This weekend we will bus to Iowa and compete Saturday night giving it all we have! Bus trips are always fun and a good time for all of us to bond. The season has brought all of us super close and I am looking forward to watching our relationships continue to grow. Every time we travel the coaches do not tell us who we are rooming with for the weekend. It is always fun trying to guess as we walk to our room eagerly to see who our roommate will be. I am looking forward to finding out which teammate I will be with next!

Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!!!
