Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 17th edition, freshman Elise Gill talks about the end of winter break, the start of second semester classes and the team's first home meet on Saturday.
Hey Illini fans!
Winter break is finally over and this week is going to be a busy one. It began with all of the dormers moving out of the apartments and back into the dorms. I had so much fun living with the seniors. Over break we got to spend a lot more time with the upperclassmen which was really cool. I feel like I know them so much better now. Over break we were able to eat at varsity room, where the football players eat when they're in season. It was delicious and the whole team got to eat together which is hard to when school is in session.
Tuesday was the first day of second semester classes. I love going to classes on the first day and seeing my professors for the first time. My classes look like they're going to be very interesting. I'm especially excited for Chemistry because I have class with Macy and Abbie. I'm looking forward to lots of group study sessions. I feel so much more prepared this semester; I actually knew where all of my classes were without looking at the map. Overall it was a lot less stressful and more fun.
At the end of the week, on Saturday January 23, it is our very first home meet! We compete against Oklahoma which should be fun and challenging. I can't believe we're already three weeks into season, it goes by so fast. A lot of the girl's parents are coming; I'm so excited to meet them. They're planning their usual pre-meet dinner at Firehaus to get pumped up for our meet. It looks like were going to have a big cheering section.
Thanks for reading and GO ILLINI!
