Freshman Amber See
Jan. 1, 2011
Get behind the scenes of Illinois Gymnastics with Illini Ink - the weekly women's gymnastics journal. In this year's 13th edition, freshman Amber See recaps the team's winter break activities and looks ahead to the start of the 2011 season.
What a busy and exciting time to be an Illini! The team recently got back from a much enjoyed winter break with family and friends at home and now we are gearing up for the season! Yesterday we had our annual poster blitz where we split up to hang posters in local businesses in order to advertise our team and meet schedule. In addition to the poster blitz, we had our holiday party at coach Kim's house. We ate some great food that Kim cooked up, made door signs for the meet season and exchanged "white elephant" gifts. My favorite gag gift given was bowling shoes. Liz McNabb, one of the other freshman, said that her older brother had them laying around the house and she thought it would make for the perfect gift:) I loved it. I ended up with a pack of three nerf guns which really brought out the kid in me haha. Did I mention that I accidentally exploded paint on coach Kim's ceiling? Well that's a different story...
Anyways, I cannot believe how fast preseason went! People always told me that college flies but I never believed them until now. Being a freshman I am eager to see what the season holds for me as a Illini gymnast! Our team has come so far already and I know that the upcoming season holds great things!
A week from today we will be having our very first competition of the 2011 season in Kentucky with Northern Illinois. Stay tuned next week for results from Kentucky! Wish us luck and thanks for reading!! Hope you had a great new year!
