Rodney Gust, who owns 16 years of coaching experience, comes to Illinois following a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Yale University. In the gym, he will serve as the vault and floor coach for the Illini.
At Yale, Gust coached the 2010 ECAC Gymnast of the Year along with the vault school-record holder during his tenure. Gust also spent 14 years coaching at the club level in Missouri, spending the majority of the time at Great American Gymnastics Express followed by one year at Flipz USA. Many gymnasts, under his direction, have gone on to compete successfully at Division I level collegiate programs throughout the country.
Gust's efforts as an elite level coach have helped produce two Silver Medalists at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He has also coached a member of the 2007 World Championship Gold Medal Team. In addition, his mentoring and coaching skills have helped produce Regional, State and National champions.
