Illini Boast No. 15 Preseason Ranking Following Best Season in School History

AT ILLINOIS

2014 - Junior: Did not compete.

2013 - Sophomore: Did not compete.

2012 - Freshman: Did not compete.

High School/Club: Placed eighth on bars, 10th on floor and 14th in the all-around at the 2011 JO Level 10 Regional Championships ... Took third in the all-around and on vault, fifth on beam, sixth on bars and eighth on floor at the 2009 Level 9 Eastern National Championships ... Finished sixth in the all-around and on bars and beam at the 2009 Level 9 Regional Championships ... Won the all-around and came in second on beam, fifth on floor and sixth on vault and bars at the 2009 Level 9 Indiana State Championships ... Was an Illinois State Scholar and Presidential Scholar along with earning academic honors ... Competed for Legacy Elite ... Club coaches were Jiani Wu and Yuejiu Li.

Personal: Born July 12, 1993 ... Daughter of Dzung and Francoise Nguyen ... Has one brother, Michael ... Says she chose Illinois because "of the reputation for academic excellence, the team unity, and the comfort of being close to home." ... Majoring in Kinesiology.

Best memory from Birmingham, Alabama (outside of competing): Seeing Snoop Dog at the airport on the way there! Also, going to the banquet. The view was incredible and it was cool to see American Idol winner Taylor Hicks perform.

What went through your head when you realized you advanced to Nationals: I was so excited and proud of all the hard work that my team put into this season and how we were able to lean on each other throughout the entire process.

The addition of Maryland and Rutgers brings what to the conference? They bring more diversity to the Big Ten and expand the competition for the conference

Describe the 2015 team in one word: Unstoppable

Biggest learning experience from last season: Learning how to come together as a team in order to overcome obstacles and challenges

Meet or opponent most excited to compete in/against this season: Michigan

Best Dressed Teammate: Jordan Naleway

Teammate most likely to become famous (and what will make them famous): Sunny for helping/ saving animals

One goal for this season: Qualify for Super Six at Nationals

City you most want to live in after graduation (and why): Chicago, because it is such a beautiful city and there is so much room for opportunity there. I lived there my last two years of high school and every time I am there, I fall more and more in love with the city.
