Sara Dumich is in her first year as a volunteer assistant coach in the Illinois gymnastics program. She previously performed for the Orange and Blue as a student-athlete from 2002-05.
Since finishing her gymnastics career in 2005, Dumich has been working towards a master's in exercise physiology with an emphasis in exercise immunology and has been coachin the Flippin' Illini club gymnastics team.
A native of Champaign, Ill., she came to UI in 2002 and gained a spot as a walk-on freshman before opting to redshirt her first season. Early in her sophomore year, she quickly became a regular in the floor lineup, establishing her career-best performance at Michigan State with a 9.850. She also was named the 2003 Most Improved Gymnast.
Dumich enjoyed continued success her junior year as the lead-off floor exercise competitor, earning a season-high of 9.825 vs. Iowa State. She also competed on beam, with a career-best 9.750. She was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team four times and is the tallest gymnast in Illinois history. "Champaign Sara" graduated from the University of Illinois in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology.
