Happy Holidays Everyone!
As the semester winds down here in Champaign-Urbana we are all studying hard for our final exams and getting ready to head home for the holidays. The semester has gone by so fast, but it was filled with a lot of great memories our little Illini family got to share. The fall season started out great with a team trip to Skokie Country Club where we got to play with members. This was Crystal Smith's favorite part of the season because she loved that the entire team got to go and that we were really welcomed at Skokie.
After our trip to Skokie the season got into full swing and we began traveling to tournaments. The season started off well in Denver where we had three golfers finish in the top 25. We then moved onto the Lady Northern (or the Big Ten Preview) where we were able to get better acquainted with the course we'll be playing in the spring at the Big Ten Championship. Next we headed back up to the Windy City (Chicago) to play in a tournament hosted by Northwestern. There we posted a great first round of 295. After playing in the Windy City Collegiate Classic, we headed to the Hawkeye Women's Invitational. This tournament was Kaitlyn Wampler's and my favorite moment from the fall season. We took second as a team and even though we all wanted to win, we all loved experiencing some success. It was very exciting, and definitely motivating. We concluded the season with a trip to Austin, Texas which was Nora Lucas's favorite trip of the season. In Texas the team posted our lowest round of the fall with a 287!! We definitely had a lot of successful moments during the fall that we will all use to build confidence and to motivate us during the off-season and into the spring.
During the off-season we have been working hard on our short games, mental games, and conditioning. We also had a lot of fun at our team Christmas party which was Hailey Koschmann's favorite moment this semester because we just spent time laughing and relaxing with each other and it really felt like we were a family. ☺ At the party we did a gift exchange and enjoyed homemade cookies made by Coach Slone. You can check out the pictures from our party in the album at the top of the page.
When school finishes for the fall we'll all be headed back home. I'll be headed to California while several other girls will be taking trips to Florida or Arizona to work on our games. Maureen is really looking forward to the break to build on our success from the fall. We'll be keeping in touch with one another to share some funny moments that happen at home as well as to keep motivating each other to condition and improve our games.
After winter break the spring season starts right away. Raquel Hopton and Samantha Sloan are really looking forward to our awesome travel schedule that we have during the spring. The entire team is looking forward to heading to Florida at the end of January where we will be competing at Crystal's home town in the Illinois Challenge.
The spring season will be full of even more memories and successful tournaments as we prepare ourselves for the Big Ten Championship and for advancing to NCAA Regional's at Otter Creek!!
Remember to keep up with the Chip Shot Blog this spring...GO ILLINI!
