2007 Fighting Illini Women's Golf Fall Review

Illinois notched two top-five finishes during the 2007 fall season, led by senior Seul Ki Park who led the Orange and Blue at all five tournaments and finished the season with a team-low stroke average of 74.40.
Park earned her second career medalist honors at the Shootout at the Legends with a career-low tournament total of 212, tying the Legends of Indiana course record and head coach Renee Slone for the lowest individual tournament total in school history. Her opening round career-low 66 tied for the third lowest round in the country at the time. She also earned her fifth career runner-up finish when she tied for second at the Challenge at Wolfdancer with the fourth lowest 54-hole tournament total (221) in her career.
The Fighting Illini kicked off the season at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State. The lady golfers carded a 54-hole total of 930 to place seventh in the 10-team field. Senior Stephanie Mory finished tied for 19th with a three-round total of 230, joining Park, who tied for 12th with a three-round total of 228, in the top-20. Mory carded season-low rounds of 74 in both the first and third rounds at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
At the Lady Northern hosted by Penn State, the Orange and Blue tied for ninth out of 14 teams with a 54-hole total of 929. Park's final round 73 put her in a tie for 18th, with a 54-hole total of 229. Mory finished tied for 29th with a 54-hole total of 233 to finish second on the team for the second straight tournament.
At the Wildcat Fall Invitational in Lexington, Ky., Illinois tallied a tournament total of 940 to finish 10th out of 14 teams. The team's second round total of 304 ranked as the third lowest of the season. Park finished tied for 16th after carding a 54-hole total of 226 at The University Club's Big Blue Golf Course.
The lady golfers earned a runner-up finish at the Shootout at the Legends for the second straight year. Illinois notched a season-low 54-hole total of 900, ranking as the second lowest 54-hole total in school history. Illinois' first round score of 296 tied the fourth-lowest team round in school history. In addition to Park's first-place performance, seniors Casey Burden (235), Kristin Kallergis (236) and Mory (228) each notched season-low tournament totals.
Illinois wrapped up the season with a fifth-place finish at the Challenge at Wolfdancer. The Illini improved by two strokes in each round to finish with a 54-hole total of 933. Along with Park's runner-up finish, junior Nancy Featherstone (240, T-36th) and freshman Raquel Hopton (245, T-52nd) each tied their low tournament totals and notched their best tournament finish of the fall season. Senior Kristine Cook (238, T-26th) was the team's second place finisher after placing third-best among the Illini in the four other fall tournaments.
"We made some great improvements during the fall, but we still have a long way to go," said head coach Renee Slone. "We really want to focus on our short game and course management over the winter to prepare for the spring season."
