Go behind the scenes of Illinois women's golf with "Chip Shots", the online golf journal. In the fourth edition of the season, junior Samantha Sloan talks about the Lady Northern Invitational, having a career day and where the Illinois women's golf team is heading next.
Greetings, Illini Fans!
This past weekend, we ventured up to the North side of Chicago to play in the 2010 Big Ten Preview, the Lady Northern hosted by Northwestern University. The event was held at Lake Shore Country Club in Lake Forest. The course was beautiful and in pristine condition. As many of you may know, the North Shore is home to 2 of my teammates, juniors Hailey Koschmann and Nora Lucas, so we had quite a few spectators out watching us! We greatly appreciate all the support!
While we weren't pleased with our finish, we did accomplish a lot of great things this tournament. Ember Schuldt, one of our freshmen, shot a 71 in the second round, which was her first under par round as an Illini, and many more to come! I shot a 69 in the final round, which is now my career low single round in college and added to my career low tournament total. The last day, we shot a 298, which was the 4th lowest score of the day. We were determined to come back after a disappointing first day.
As a team, we have looked back on our performance and realized that we still have a few things to work on. We are using this to prepare us for the end of the fall season, and the final round will give us confidence going into our final two fall tournaments. Next weekend, we start heading south, and our first stop is Germantown, Tennessee for the University of Memphis Fall Invitational. We will be working hard this week to make sure we're fully prepared for it! Make sure to keep checking fightingillini.com to see our progress!
Peace, Love, and Fighting Illini!
