CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Fresh off their first win of the season, the Illinois women's golf team, now ranked 22nd by Golfstat, will head to Greenwood, Indiana for the Hoosier Fall Invitational taking place this Saturday and Sunday at Hickory Stick Golf Club. The tournament will feature a field of 15 teams (including four other schools from the Big Ten) on a par 71, 6,062 yard course.
Illinois will send a team consisting of freshmen Stephanie Miller and Emily Joers, juniors Sam Postillion and Erin Ahern and senior Ember Schuldt. Redshirt junior Jackie Calamaro will also be going as an individual competitor. Last week, the Fighting Illini took home the team title at the Diane Thomason Invitational, Illinois' first team title since February of 2012. Additionally, Stephanie Miller bested the competition by ten strokes in Iowa City for her first individual tournament win.
As a result, Miller earned national and conference honors this week, earning GolfWeek's College Player of the Week and Big Ten Golfer of the Week. Furthermore, Miller has led the charge so far for the Illini with a team low stroke average of 73 per round. Schuldt (74.11), Postillion (75) and Joers (76.56) round out the Illinois top four, who, through three tournaments, have finished third, second and first as a team.
This weekend, Illinois will face teams from Illinois State, Boston College, Rutgers, Louisville, Nebraska, Toledo, Xavier, Ball State, UC Davis, and Eastern Michigan along with Big Ten foes Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota and Penn State. Illinois comes into the tournament as the only team ranked in the top 25.
The action is slated to begin on Saturday at 9 AM, with 36 holes being played followed by 18 on Sunday starting at 8:00 am CT. The weekend forecast cites a 50% chance of rain on Saturday with a high of 55 degrees followed by a 61 degree Sunday with 0% chance of rain.
