CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois women's golf team will continue fall competition when they travel to Carmel, Ind., on Oct. 17-18 for the Hoosier Fall Invitational. The invitational will be held at the par-72, 6,196-yard Crooked Stick Golf Club. Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday with a start at 7:30 a.m. CT on Monday.
Indiana University will host the 13-team field, which includes Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Gonzaga, Illinois State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Penn State, Missouri, Toledo, Western Michigan, and Wichita State.
"We are looking forward to getting back on the course," head coach Renee Slone said. "Our par three play at the last tournament was not very good, and that certainly is an area of improvement for us. We'll work on that, as well as some of the par fives, and just really positioning on the green."
Competing in the event will be seniors Samantha Sloan, Hailey Koschmann, Nora Lucas and Katelin Dilger, and sophomore Ember Schuldt. Redshirt freshman Jacqueline Calamaro will be playing as an individual.
"Putting yourself in the best possible position is key," Slone said. "For Crooked Stick, the greens are not nearly as severe as the Donald Ross course from last week, but it is still an important factor to play well."
Last week, Illinois competed in the Lady Northern Intercollegiate in French Lick, Ind., where they placed 7th out of 12 teams. Senior Samantha Sloan and sophomore Ember Schuldt led the Illini, finishing in a tie for 30th overall.
"We need to get back to the mindset we had going into Colorado," Slone said. "Just really having absolutely no expectations whatsoever, and just go out and play. Don't worry about the results, don't worry about where we finish relative to other teams or anything like that, and just go out and play. Realize that there are certain things that we need to focus on in order to play well, and just make sure we stay focused on those things that are within our control."
