Chip Shots with Stephanie Mory
Oct. 15, 2007
Go behind the scenes of Illinois women's golf with "Chip Shots", the online golf journal. In the fourth edition of the season, senior Stephanie Mory summarizes the team's trip and second place finish at the Shootout at the Legends.
The team recently returned from an exciting couple of days at the Shootout at the Legends tournament in Franklin, Indiana. Before saying anything else, I must say one more time... CONGRATULATIONS SEUL KI!!!!! She had a great tournament victory which included a tournament record score of 66 in her first round of the event; after two consecutive years of finishing second, she finally pulled out the win! It was definitely time to celebrate on the way home from the Legends. The team also had a good tournament, finishing in second place, and having our low 54-hole score for the season. After the final round on Tuesday, the team gathered together to celebrate a great tournament. Kristine's parents brought 2 cookie cakes to congratulate Seul Ki on her victory (and low round of 66), and the team for their great play! All the parents and team together waited excitedly for Seul Ki to receive her victory trophy. It is times like these when we realize what we practice so hard for, and it motivates us to push ourselves even harder, in order to achieve all of our goals. It was an awesome experience, especially because our team consists of mostly upperclassman, including the five seniors, and we have all grown to be like sisters over the past 3 or 4 years.
On the way home, we stopped at the Beef House to have a great steak dinner, and celebrate one more time as a team before we made our way back to campus, and the reality of school work awaiting us at home. The tournament was a great confidence boost for the team, especially since we will be able to build off this experience for the next three weeks in preparation for our tournament in Austin, Texas on November 4th and 5th. The team is excited to play in Texas, since most of us have never played golf there, and the golf course is ranked one of the top public courses in the country.
Since we have a three week break between tournaments, we have this weekend off in order to go home, or get caught back up on school work. Many of us are heading home to spend some time with families and friends, relax, and get re-focused and fired-up for the concluding event of our season. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we look forward to going out with a bang this fall season, and heading into the spring with a renewed sense of confidence!
