Senior Kristine Cook
Oct. 4, 2007
Go behind the scenes of Illinois women's golf with "Chip Shots", the online golf journal. In the third edition of the season, senior Kristine Cook talks about the Wildcat Fall Invitational, the upcoming Shootout at the Legends tournament, and the Ultimate Uno Loser.
We just returned home from a long weekend in Lexington, Kentucky, where we competed in the Wildcat Fall Invitational. This is the first time our team has competed in this tournament, and we were the only Big Ten team in the field. There were many of the best teams in the country competing and many teams we had never competed against. The course was very difficult and placement was important. In front of every green, there were either multiple bunkers or water in front of the entire green. This was the first time the traveling team consisted of just the five seniors and we felt like we could do very well at this tournament. While the first and final round didn't go as well as we would have liked, our best round of the tournament was our second round. We shot a team total of 304, which is our season low thus far. Seul Ki Park led the way this weekend with a 16th place finish in a very competitive field, Good Job Seul Ki! We all learned much from our rounds this weekend and can continue looking at our strengths and weaknesses from every week in order to keep improving.
As for more updates on the "Ultimate UNO Loser," I think by now after multiple games, we have all become the Ultimate UNO Loser. Our favorite game is trying to get the freshman, Raquel, to become the Ultimate UNO Loser, which we played the whole time at the Lady Northern Tournament! In Kentucky, we had plenty of time to go out and see Lexington since we only played 18 holes each day. We went to a few different restaurants and even tried to go see a horse museum in downtown Lexington, yet after walking around for a while, we were unable to find the actual museum, thanks Rick!!
The team will be leaving this week for our next tournament in Franklin, Indiana, at the Legends of Indiana golf course. We are all very excited about this tournament because of the great finish the team had last year at this tournament. The team finished in 2nd place last year breaking the previous 54-hole record when posting an 890 for three rounds. Seul Ki really likes this golf course as she has finished in 2nd place the last two years! Maybe this year the team and Seul Ki can come away with a win! Raquel and I also have played this golf course many times! Our High School State Championships and many other summer tournaments are always played at the Legends. It is always nice to play tournaments at golf courses you are very familiar with and it seems we all have good memories at the Legends. We have qualifying on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for spots at the tournament and then will take off early on Sunday morning for Indiana. We will play 36-holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday morning. We have had great weather thus far in our tournaments, which is very unusual, so hopefully this next week in Indiana we will continue to have great weather and great golf!
