Go behind the scenes of Illinois women's golf with "Chip Shots", the online golf journal. In the first edition of the new season, senior Kristin Kallergis talks about how the team has prepared for the Fall 2007 season as they head to East Lansing to compete in the Mary Fossum Invitational this weekend.

Two words that can describe how great the beginning of our season has been: Demirjian Dedication. It started off August 19th when the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics held a dedication ceremony for the J.G. Demirjian Indoor Golf Practice Facility. This facility is very special to both the men's and women's team. Thanks to the Demirjian family and other generous donors, including Mr. Art Wyatt, Jeff and Madalyn Tinervin, Avy and Marcie Stein, and Steven and Janet Bowsher, our women's golf team can practice any day of the year: rain, shine, or snow. Along with the indoor facility, our team has also been preparing for the season on several courses around the area. These courses include Urbana Country Club, Champaign Country Club, Stonecreek, and the Orange and Blue course. Our coach has us practice/play the course that is most similar to the upcoming tournament.

This past Saturday marked the end of our first six-round qualifier. Starting Saturday August 25, our team played 18 holes followed by 36 on Sunday and then continuing on this past Friday (18) and Saturday (36). By this time next week 36 holes will feel like nothing or so we're hoping :). Our first tournament is at Michigan State in East Lansing. I can honestly say that my team is looking forward to it. The lineup includes: Seul Ki Park, Kristin Kallergis [Me :)], Stephanie Mory, Casey Burden, Kristine Cook, and Nancy Featherstone. We have played this course a number of times over the past few years and with five seniors in the lineup, we are looking forward to ending there on a good note. I can't remember a tournament at MSU where my body wasn't freezing or there wasn't rain, so I think we're prepared for anything. As a team we're going to focus on playing one shot at a time and having fun. Some of the other tournaments our team is traveling to this Fall include Penn State, Kentucky, The Legends, and Texas...how can we go wrong. We've set forth some great goals and are looking forward to achieving them. Keep updated on our Progress!
