CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Head coach Renee Slone has announced the Fighting Illini women’s golf schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 season, including a chance to see the team play at home.
The orange and blue unit will open the season on Monday, September 1st at Stone Creek Golf Course in Urbana with an 8:00 a.m. tee time to determine which five players will be traveling to the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic the following weekend. Coaches Slone and Coluccio are encouraging Illini fans to stop by to see the team in action at the free event. This intrasquad qualifying tournament is the only regular season event scheduled for the Fighting Illini to compete at home.
Illinois will open intercollegiate play at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic on September 8th and 9th in Fort Collins, Colorado, where they finished 3rd of 17 teams last fall. The Fighting Illini will also return to the Minnesota, Diane Thomason and Hoosier Invitationals where the 2013-14 team finished second, first and second respectively. New on the slate this fall is the Jim West Challenge held from November 2nd through 4th in Boerne, Texas.
On February 1st, 2015, the Fighting Illini will seek their seventh straight Illinois Challenge title against Illinois State in Venice, Florida. Following the Challenge, Slone’s group will have a three-week break before returning to action on February 22nd at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. A week later a visit to Coral Gables, Florida is on the agenda to take part in the Hurricane Invitational. The rest of the spring schedule includes returns to the Briar’s Creek, Web.com and Lady Buckeye Invitationals.
Slone’s unit will continue to the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, from April 24th-26th where they will look to top last season’s fifth place finish.
