Franklin, Ind. - The busy summer for the Fighting Illini women's golf team continues, as six members of Renee Slone's squad will be seeking spots in the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in two different qualifiers this week.

Fighting Illini Casey Burden (Lake Bluff, Ill.), Kristine Cook (Fishers, Ind.), Raquel Hopton (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Kristin Kallergis (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Seul Ki Park (Northbrook, Ill.) will be playing at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Ind., on Tuesday, July 10, while Stephanie Mory (Haslett, Mich.) is playing in a qualifier at Cincinnati Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio, today, July 9. There are 18 qualifiers around the country from July 5 to July 19, with competitors at each gunning for coveted spots in the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur field, which will be held Aug. 7-12 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Last week (July 2-3) Cook and Hopton teed it up at the Legends of Indiana course for the 2007 PGA Indiana Women's Open, so they'll both have plenty of experience on the course for Tuesday's qualifier. Cook fired rounds of 76 and 77 to tie for 11th place with 36-hole total of 153, nine-over par. Hopton finished tied for 31st with rounds of 77 and 82 for a total of 159. Danah Ford took medalist honors with an even par total of 144.

The Indiana Women's Open and the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifiers are two of the many premier women's amateur events that Illini golfers have been playing in this summer. The schedule still includes the Illinois Women's Open, July 26-28 in Romeoville, Ill, and the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, Aug. 7-12.
