Schuldt, Lucas Reach Semifinals at Illinois State Amateur

Champaign, Ill. - Illini women's golfers Ember Schuldt, Samantha Postillion and Michelle Mayer, along with former Illini Nora Lucas `12 all qualified for match play the 2013 Illinois State Women's Amateur Tournament . The state tournament took place at Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill., from June 25-28, 2013. Rising senior Schuldt and alumna Lucas were among the four golfers to reach the semifinals, Postillion reached the quarterfinals, and Mayer fell in the first round of match play.
The tournament began with a qualifying round of stroke play on Tuesday, June 25. Postillion and Lucas tied for fourth with a 75 (+3), and Schuldt was close behind in eighth at 77. Mayer shot an 82 to place 26th as all four Illini made the top 32 to qualify for the Championship Flight of match play.
Michelle Mayer lost her opening round matchup with Nicole Feierberg on Wednesday, but Schuldt cruised past Lauren Bond, 6 & 4, Lucas topped Katie Klosterman, 4 & 3, and Postillion held on to defeat Renee Solberg in 20 holes.
All three Illini won their second round matchups on Wednesday afternoon, as Schuldt took down Allison Walsh, 3 & 1, Postillion beat Brooke Kochevar, 2 & 1, and Lucas once again won 4 & 3, this time over Madasyn Pettersen.
Down to the final eight, Ember Schuldt and Nora Lucas each punched their tickets to the semifinals with 3 & 2 victories over Elizabeth Szokol and Sylvie Brick, respectively, but rising junior Postillion saw her run end in a close battle with Lauren English, 1 up.
With two Illini in the semifinals, the Orange and Blue had a shot at the state title, however both Schuldt and Lucas dropped their Thursday afternoon matches, 3 & 1, to finish in a tie for third.
