May 10, 2014
Stillwater, Okla. - Ember Schuldt and Stephanie Miller officially ended the 2013-14 Illini women's golf season on Saturday as they wrapped up play at the NCAA Central Regional in Stillwater, Olka. The Illini duo finished their final rounds at the Karsten Creek golf course, shooting identical third round scores of 80.
Miller's +8 resulted in the freshman in obtaining a tournament total of 231 (+15). She tied for 51st along with eight other golfers in her postseason debut. Miller finished the round with a birdie on hole seventeen and had a stronger back nine finishing only three over par. Miller was the first freshman NCAA Regional qualifier in Illinois history.
Schuldt finished her career at Illinois on a strong note having been the only player to qualify for Regionals three different times. Schuldt's tournament total of 233 (+17) landed the senior in a tie for 66th. Schuldt will exit Illinois with the second lowest career scoring average of all-time, only behind current head coach and Illini legend Renee Slone.
"While neither Stephanie nor Ember finished where they wanted, they both left it on the course," said Slone. "It was great to see Stephanie in her first postseason play and Ember finished her career on a fantastic note having been the first Illini to qualify for Regionals three times".
No.3 UCLA led the way in the team race as they finished with a tournament total of 875 (+11). They were followed closely by No. 9 Alabama (892, +28), No.33 Mississippi State (893, +29), and No.35 California (894, +30).
