Ember Schuldt and the Illini will look to establish momentum early on in the Lady Jaguar
March 14, 2013
Augusta, Ga. – Fighting Illini women's golf will travel to Georgia this Friday, March 15 to compete in the sixth-annual Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate tournament. Augusta State will host the tournament at the par 72 6,214-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., where the competition will be played out over a three-day period from March 15 through March 17. The event will feature a large field of 18 teams, all of which are scheduled to play a full round during each of the three days of competition (54 holes total). Tee times for Friday and Saturday will begin at 8 a.m. central followed by a shotgun start on Sunday, which will also begin at 8 a.m. CT.
This year's Insperity Lady Jaguar tournament presents a prominent pool of teams with six of the 18 teams bearing top-50 Golfweek/Sagarin rankings as of March 10, 2013. The two top-ranked teams coming into the tournament include 12th-ranked Vanderbilt and the 15th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers, who were the victors of the Lady Jaguar back in 2011. Continuing down the line in the rankings, 25th-ranked Texas will claim a spot in the tournament along with Notre Dame (27), Kentucky (32), and the University of Texas San Antonio (43), whose team asserted victory just last year at fifth annual Lady Jaguar. Filling out the remainder of the 18-team field are Illinois, Augusta State, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, East Tennessee, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Maryland, Memphis, and Southern Mississippi.
In hopes to get the ball rolling, the Orange and Blue have assembled a team lineup that has not yet been seen in the 2012-13 season. Featured in the Illini's lineup are tournament-regulars Samantha Postillion, Jacqueline Calamaro, and Pimploy Thirati. Moreover, senior Crystal Smith will stay in the lineup for Illinois after her top-20 finish at the Westbrook Invitational and her performance as Illinois' second-best individual at the Clover Cup last weekend. Rejoining the lineup and rounding out the team for the Illini is Ember Schuldt, who did not participate in the Clover Cup but hopes to return as a top contributor for the Orange and Blue in the Lady Jaguar.
