Senior Kristin Kallergis

Go behind the scenes of Illinois women's golf with "Chip Shots", the online golf journal. In the second spring edition of the season, senior captain Kristin Kallergis discusses the Demirjian Golf Facility "Meet and Greet", pre-tournament preparations and the excitement surrounding the team's upcoming trip.
What a great day to be an Illini golfer. Today (Sunday) was our "Meet and Greet" at the Demirjian Indoor Golf Facility. Our team was able to meet many of the men and women from the local community who share the passion for golf like us. The "Meet and Greet" started with an introduction of each player and a brief video clip. We were then able to walk guests through our amazing facility. We all had so much fun- I even got to record two guest's golf swings in our video bays where we have our V1 software. Not to mention the Champaign Contry Club's head pro's 2-year-old son, Lance, who has a bright future in golf.
When I headed back home, I was even more excited because I got to start packing for warm weather! Our team is starting our spring break trip early, as we leave Tuesday afternoon to head to our first tournament in Gainesville, Florida: hosted by the University of Florida. After three 18 hole rounds, which will be updated on FightingIllini.com, we head to Alabama to play in Samford University's home tournament. Following our two tournaments, our team is lucky enough to go to Atlanta to spend a few days playing some of the top courses in the country for fun!! Seeing as we will be gone for 13 days we must travel light- I continue to tell my roommate Kristine NOOO every time she puts another "fun t-shirt" or coach purse in her travel bag.
Aside from packing the golf necessities, I will obviously also bring UNO and catch phrase and I will be introducing yet another fun and exciting game to the team this semester- YAHTZEE to Go!!!! I've already gone through some test trials with roommates and I must say, it's going to get crazzyyyy!!
I must say my teammates and I have been working extremely hard every day since we got back. We have continued to do weight lifting 3 times a week along with conditioning with our trainers at CRCE the other 2 days of the week. Aside from workouts we have been working with our sports psychologist, Brent Walker, who has worked wonders on our mental toughness, which we will be bringing to the course this season. Our nutritionist, Susan Kundrat, has provided us with many helpful tips for the season. Coach Slone has continued to make our practice fun and challenging every day and none of us know what we'd do without her. I can honestly say we have never been this prepared to dominate in any of my four years at Illinois and I am so thrilled to have 5 great teammates and friends along with our coach and assistant coach at my side through what is going to be an amazing journey. My freshman, Raquel, will be giving more updates throughout our trip, but mark your calendars for April 4-5 to come watch our home tournament out at StoneCreek- I PROMISE the weather will be better than last year. Wishing you all the best, thanks for checking in!!
