Sloan Tabbed Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Senior Samantha Sloan was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the third time in her career.

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Senior Samantha Sloan was tabbed Big Ten Golfer of the Week following her performance at the season-opening Illinois Challenge, announced the conference office on Wednesday. The Lansing, Ill., native won her four ball and individual matches to lead Illinois to a 6.5-5.5 win over Illinois State at the Illinois Challenge, marking the Illini's fourth straight victory at the event.
Sloan paired up with Jacqueline Calamaro to defeat the Redbirds' Rachel Powers and Kaitlin Reid (4 & 3) before downing ISU's Carlee Cossell (5 & 4) in individual match play. The honor marks the third career Big Ten weekly laurel for Sloan and the first awarded this season by the conference office. She also was the last Illini to garner it, doing so on Feb. 2, 2011.
Illinois will begin the spring tournament season on Feb. 26 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
