CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Juniors Hailey Koschmann and Nora Lucas, along with sophomore Crystal Smith and freshman Jacqueline Calamaro put in a little extra work over the winter break, participating in three tournaments during their time away from Illinois.
Koschmann competed in the Joanne Winter Silver Belle Championship, held at the par-72, 6,236-yard Arizona State University golf course in Tempe, Ariz., on Dec. 28-30. Koschmann finished 23rd in the stroke play event after posting the seventh lowest score of the final round in some very challenging conditions. Koschmann had a 54-hole total of 234 after rounds of 76-79-79, for 18-over par.
Lucas traveled to Coral Springs, Fla., to participate in the first of two winter break tournaments, the 80th Annual Dixie Amateur Championship, held at the par-72, 6,400-yard Heron Bay Golf Club on Dec. 31 - Jan. 3. Lucas had a 72-hole total of 312 after posting scores of 79-81-75-77 to finish in 40th.
Lucas then joined teammates Smith and Calamaro at the 56th Harder Hall Women's Invitational on Jan 5-8 at the par-72, 6,151-yard Harder Hall Country Club in Sebring, Fla. Lucas had a 72-hole total of 299, after recording rounds of 70-73-80-76 for 11-over par. Lucas was one of 12 golfers to break par in round one and finished 19th in the Championship Flight. Smith had rounds of 80-78-75-81 for a total of 314 and finished tied for ninth in Flight One. Calamaro tallied scores of 78-82-73-75 for a total of 308 and finished in first in Flight Two.
All four golfers are back on campus with the rest of the Illinois women's golf team, ready for the start of the spring season. First up for the Illini golfers is hosting the third annual Illinois Challenge, a dual meet against the Redbirds of Illinois State on January 29 in Venice, Fla.
