Champaign, Ill. - Sophomores Katelin Dilger and Nora Lucas will have played in three tournaments in two different states when they return from the winter break, but they will have also helped themselves get a leg up on the competition when the spring season kicks off at the Illinois Challenge on January 30th in Venice, Fla.
Dilger participated in the Joanna Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship, hosted at the Raven Golf Club at South Mountain in Phoenix, Ariz. The 54-hole tournament, with 18 holes each of the three days, was held December 28-30. Dilger finished with a three-round total of 232, shooting +16, with rounds of 80, 75 and 77.
Lucas first traveled to Coral Springs, Fla., and played in the Dixie Amateur, hosted by the Heron Bay Golf Course from Dec. 31-Jan. 3. Lucas came in 43rd with a four-round total of 317, tallying rounds of 82, 76, 79 and 80. Lucas then traveled north to Sebring, Fla., to compete in the Harder Hall Tournament, hosted by Harder Hall Country Club, Jan.6-9. The native of Glenview, Ill., shot a 72-hole total of 320, with rounds of 76, 79, 81 and 84.
"Both of [Lucas's] events had highly competitive fields with some of the best junior, college and women's amateur players in the world participating," said Head Coach Renee Slone. "It was an excellent opportunity for Nora to prepare herself for the upcoming spring season. With three of our first four events this spring being contested in Florida, these events will be particularly beneficial as she will be well adjusted to playing on Bermuda grass."
