Chip Shots: Erin Ahern discusses preparations for the spring
Jan. 7, 2013
Hello Illini Fans!
We hope all of you are having a wonderful holiday season and new year! The team is currently in the midst of the off-season, and we are working hard in preparation for the spring season.
Although the weather has grown cooler, the preparation for the spring season is in full swing (no pun intended). The team is spending a lot of time in the weight room increasing our strength for the spring tournaments. Our strength coach gave us a program to do over winter break so we can come back to school and pick up where we left off. It is at this time of year that we realize what an asset Demirjian, our indoor facility, is to the team. Demirjian has given us a huge advantage in these Midwestern winters, and the team is very grateful to have the ability to practice there.
We have learned a lot from the fall season even though it did not go as well as we would have liked. There were a lot of positives and good things that we saw. Everyone on the team has a high level of drive, and they give one hundred percent. Each of us wants the team to be successful; we are hard at work making changes/adjustments in order to make it happen.
Winter break has given each of us an opportunity to reevaluate what we have been doing and whether or not it has been working. Some of the girls are playing in warmer climates to prepare. Others are utilizing the facilities near their homes and are working on formulating a plan of attack for the spring. Each team member has something different that she needs to work on, but the important thing is knowing what that thing is and how to go about making improvements.
We are looking forward to a great spring season and a spectacular 2013. Stay tuned for more Illini Women’s Golf updates. We wish you and your family a Happy New Year.
