Macke, Sitter Top Illini in Iowa - 4/18/99
The Fighting Illini women's golf team improved by eight strokes in the final round, but still finished in last place at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City. The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was reduced to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
Illinois shot rounds of 348-341 and totaled a 689. Indiana won the tournament with rounds of 307-307 (614).
Two Illinois golfers finished tied for 34th in the standings, the best finish by the Illini. Jillian Sitter, who has led the team throughout the season, shot 83-86 and tied teammate Nell Macke (88-81) for 34th with a 169 total.
Lorette Lyttle shot a final round 86 to go with her 87 >from Saturday's first round. Christine Scott improved by three strokes from a 91 on Saturday to an 88 on Sunday. Christin Sutton shot a 93 in the final round.
Illini freshman Sarah Kim, playing as an individual, shot a 94 on Sunday.
The team will return to action April 30-May 2 at the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.
