Golfers Improve By 21 Shots - 3/26/99
The Fighting Illini women's golf team closed out play in the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament by shooting one of its lowest scores for the season, a 326. Illinois also shot a 326 in the fall at the Pat Bradley Invitational. The low score for the year is a 322, which came in the second round of the Pat Bradley. The team finished 15th with a 54-hole total of 1,018 in the tournament being played at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in Honolulu.
Illinois was led by senior Jillian Sitter, who fired a career-low 74 in the final round. She progressively improved each day from an 88 in the first round to a 79 in round two, to a 74 on Wednesday.
Lorette Lyttle, who shot 87-91 in the first two rounds, finished with a 78 on Wednesday, which is her low for the year. Nell Macke added an 86 and Christin Sutton shot 88. Christine Scott's 92 was not counted in the team score.
The team returns to Champaign to host the Illini Classic, April 2-3 at the University of Illinois Orange Course in Savoy.
