Illini Sixth after First Round
On the first day of spring break the Illinois women's golfers shot a 329 team score and the Illini are in sixth place entering the final round of the Springlake Intercollegiate in Sebring, Fla. The tournament is hosted by Northern Illinois at the par 72 Springlake Golf and Country Club.
Illinois is two strokes out of fifth place, six strokes out of third, and 11 behind leader Arkansas State University. The Illini posted the best score of the three Big Ten teams competing, edging Iowa and Michigan which each shot 330.
Illinois senior Jillian Sitter (Naperville, Ill.) shot her fourth round in the 70s this year and is tied for 10th place after shooting a 7-over par 79 in the first round on Monday. The other Illini contributing to the team score were Nell Macke (Jr., Marshall, Ill.) and Lorette Lyttle (So., West Palm Beach, Fla.) who each shot 83. Christin Sutton (Sr., Midland, Texas), the Illini leader in two fall tournaments, shot a first-round 84.
Also competing at the tournament are Christine Scott (Jr., Lockport, Ill.), who shot 94 on Monday; and Kate Peters (Fr., Arlington Heights, Ill.), who is competing as an individual and shot a 94.
The Illini women will compete in final round action on Tuesday. After the Springlake Invitational Illinois will travel west to Hawaii for the Wahine Invitational in Oahu on March 23-25.
