UI Finishes 13th at Lady Northern
The Fighting Illini women's golf team finished 13th at the Lady Northern, which was hosted at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. The Illini cut eight strokes off its Saturday round of 352 and shot a 344 on Sunday for a 54-hole total 1054 after shooting a 358 on Friday.
"We saw a lot of improvement over the three days," Head Coach Paula Smith said. "This was a very challenging golf course and the scores were not indicative of how well the team really played."
Michigan State fired a weekend low 306 and moved from third place to first in the final round.
The top Illini golfer was senior Jillian Sitter (Naperville, Ill.) with rounds of 88-86-79. She tied for 46th individually. Behind Sitter was junior Nell Macke (Marshall, Ill.), who tied for 64th with rounds of 84-90-92.
Christin Sutton (Sr., Midland, Texas) shot 91-89-87, and Lorette Lyttle (Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) improved ten strokes from a first round 97 to shoot 87 on Saturday She finished with an 88 on Sunday. Christine Scott (Jr., Lockport, Ill.) shot 95-98-92 and freshman Sarah Kim (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) shot her best round of the tournament on Sunday, a 90, after shooting 103-98 on Friday and Saturday.
