FRENCH LICK, Ind. - The Illinois women's golf team completed the third and final round of the Lady Northern Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a 308 (+24), giving the Orange and Blue an overall score of 924 (+72) to place seventh in the 12-team field. UCF (887) took the team title, with Ohio State (892) and Michigan (893) finishing close behind.

"It wasn't a great tournament for us overall," head coach Renee Slone said. "We did have a couple of individuals put up good rounds, but we just did not do the things that were required on this particular golf course to play well. The greens did present some challenges, that's where we lost a number of shots."

Individually, senior Samantha Sloan (230) and sophomore Ember Schuldt (230) led the Illini, finishing in a tie for 30th overall. Sloan's final round was her best of the tournament at 73 (+2), while Schuldt carded a 78 (+7) in her third round. Senior Hailey Koschmann (232) finished two strokes behind her teammates, posting a third round 80 (+9) to put her in a tie for 33rd overall.

Senior Katelin Dilger ended the tournament tied for 44th with an overall score of 232 after shooting a final round 82 (+11). Freshman Michelle Mayer finished the third round with a 77 (+6) after carding four birdies to put her final score at 242.

Michigan's Meagan Bauer took first place with an even 213, while UCF's Katie Mitchell finished in second with a four-over par 217.

"We need to find a way to get the ball in the hole," Slone said. "We're just not finding a way to score or take advantage of the opportunities when they present themselves. When mistakes are made, unfortunately they tend to get compounded. We need to mentally be stronger, and understand that it's not necessarily about hitting perfect shots. It's about utilizing your own special skill set and making the most of those. "

The Illini will be back in action next week when they travel to Carmel, Ind. for the Hoosier Fall Invitational on Oct. 17-18.
