Denver, Colo. - Team Scorese in PDF Format
Illinois opened its season in sixth place after a cold and rainy day one of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate with a first round score of 312, 24 over par. Tournament host No. 5 University of Denver leads with a score of 298 on the Highlands Ranch Golf Course. "It was a respectable start to the tournament. Obviously the conditions were very challenging, they were challenging for everybody. The temperature didn't get up to the 40s," said head coach Renee Slone. Sophomores Raquel Hopton and Kaitlyn Wampler paced the Illini and are both tied for 12th place. They each fired a score of 77 after 18 holes on the par-72, 6,483-yard course. Sophomores Hailey Koschmann and Samantha Sloan are currently both tied for 24th, each firing a first round score of 79. Koschmann and Sloan each birdied two holes as well. "The scores for every team were very different than they were yesterday. Scores were lower for everybody," said Slone. "We'll build on this and continue tomorrow." UC Davis' Alice Kim leads all individuals after shooting a 71, one under par. The second round begins tomorrow, Sept. 22, starting at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
