Monday marked stop two on a three event in two week stretch for the Illinois women's golf team -- the 15-team Dale McNamera Invitational hosted by the University of Tulsa.
For the second straight tournament, redshirt sophomore Samantha Postillion is leading the charge for Illinois. The University of Texas transfer and native of Burr Ridge, Ill., followed up a first-round 77 with a 74 on the par-72 Golf Club of Oklahoma in Broken Arrow, Okla. Postillion, who is tied for 37th at +7, started her second round with back-to-back birdies and three birdies in her first six holes.
After 36 of 54 holes, Illinois is 13th with a score of +45 (621) in a field that includes a few big names in the women's college golf world. Fourth-ranked Arizona State ends the day at -4 (572), four strokes in front of second-place and ninth-ranked Florida (E, 576). East Carolina (+8), No. 21 Oklahoma State (+10) and Kennesaw State (+14) round out the top five teams.
Illinois junior Ember Schuldt is right on the heels of her teammate, in a tie for 38th in the 75-player field at +8 after rounds of 77-75. The rest of the Illinois contingent includes redshirt sophomore Jacqueline Calamaro (79-80) and sophomore Pimploy Thirati (78-81), in a tie for 62nd at +15, and sophomore Michelle Mayer (82-83), in 71st at +21. A pair of Florida Gators, Isabelle Lendl (-6) and Camilla Hedberg (-4), and Jayde Panos of Oklahoma State (-4) lead the field individually.
The third and final round begins Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
