Sept. 9, 2013
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Illinois women's golf team began their 2013-2014 season Monday at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Illini shot 504 (+16) as a team, good for fifth place heading into Tuesday, the last day of the tournament. Storms and lack of daylight suspended second round play late Monday and forced the round to be resumed Tuesday morning.
Redshirt-junior Sam Postillion led the Illini Monday as she shot a 116 (-1), fueled by her six birdie performance. She is currently tied for second place on the individual leader board with New Mexico's Sammi Stevens and Manon DeRoey and California's Nicola Roessler. UNLV's Dana Finkelstein paves the way with a 113 (-6).
Illini freshman Emily Joers and Stephanie Miller both played well in their first day of collegiate competition, finishing day one second and third on the team, respectively. Joers shot +4, tying for 11th overall and Miller shot +5, tying for 18th. Senior Ember Schuldt is tied for 29th overall at +8.
The Illini, who finished 16th at last years Ptarmigan Ram Classic, is thus already off to a fast start, as they are six strokes back from the leader California (+10). The second round will be completed tomorrow morning, followed by the third and final round.
