ERIE, Colo. - After posting a 302 (+14) on Friday, the Illinois women's golf team (598) finished round two of the NCAA West Regional Championships in a tie for ninth place with Colorado at +22 overall. The Illini are just one shot back of eighth-place California (597) and two shots behind seventh-place Pepperdine (596). The top eight teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in two weeks. Illinois, which had its top regional finish (10th) in 2003, will seek to qualify for nationals for the first time in school history during Saturday's final round.

"We all know that we have some really good golf in us here, and we're ready to let that come out tomorrow," head coach Renee Slone said. "Today was an okay day overall. We didn't really have anything spectacular. Katelin Dilger bounced back well. She struggled a bit during her first nine but played the last nine 3-under par, so she finished strong."

Individually, senior Katelin Dilger (148) leads the Illini and is in a tie for 22nd after shooting a 74 (+2) in the second round. Senior Samantha Sloan (149) carded a 76 (+4) and is tied for 30th. Sophomore Ember Schuldt (150) posted a second round 77 (+5) and is tied for 40th after day two. Senior Nora Lucas (152) is tied for 54th place after posting a 76 (+4). Senior Hailey Koschmann (154) shot a 76 (+4) and sits in a tie for 71st.

Stanford (580) leads the field, followed by LSU (581), North Carolina (586) and UCLA (586). Teams five through nine are separated by just five strokes, with Baylor at +17 and the Illini at +22. North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell (139) leads all individuals, followed by LSU's Austin Ernst (140) and Stanford's Sydney Burlison.

"The main thing for us to do is focus on ourselves, play the golf course and be decisive," Slone said. "Being committed to each and every shot and putt will be key. We don't need to get caught up in scoreboard watching, and just need to keep our focus on the course and playing to the best of our abilities."

The third and final round of the NCAA West Regional Championships begins at 8:30 a.m. CT on Saturday. Live scoring can be found on golfstat.com while a recap of the action can be found on fightingillini.com.
