The Illinois (313) women's golf team sits in a tie for 16th out of 24 teams after the first round of the NCAA Central Regional Championships, held at the par-72, 6,208-yard Warren Golf Course. Illinois carded a first round 313, 25-over par. UCLA (291) led the way for all teams, finishing three-over par, followed closely by LSU (295) and Notre Dame (298), playing on their home course. The top eight teams will advance to the NCAA National Championships, with Minnesota (301), Duke (302), Stanford (302), Northwestern (302), and Chattanooga (303) rounding out the top eight after day one.

"We know that we certainly left a lot of shots out there today," head coach Renee Slone said. "However, a lot of scores are in this 300 to 315 range, so tomorrow is moving day. We need to take advantage of getting out early and posting a good number on the board."

The Orange and Blue were led individually by freshman Ember Schuldt, who tallied a five-over par 77 and is tied for 43rd after the first round. Juniors Hailey Koschmann and Samantha Sloan were one shot off Schuldt's pace, each carding a six-over par 78 on day one and are tied for 51st. Juniors Nora Lucas and Katelin Dilger each had rounds of eight-over par 80 to round out the Illini.

UCLA's Ani Gulugian and Nicole Zhang of Notre Dame lead the tournament individually and are tied for first after each carded a one-under par 71 in the first round.

"We know we can play a lot better and we've proven that on this golf course in the fall," Slone said. "Everybody worked on a couple of things after today's round and we're ready to get after it tomorrow."

Illinois will be in the morning wave of tee times on Friday, with the first Illinois golfer beginning the second round at 8:55 a.m. For continuing coverage of Illinois at the NCAA Central Regionals, check fightingillini.com for full recaps after each round and for live action, visit golfstat.com.
