April 25, 2014
FRENCH LICK, Ind. - The Illinois women's golf team began its Big Ten Championships at the Pete Dye Course this morning, recording a team total of 316. The Illini's first round score of +28 tied No. 49 Wisconsin for ninth place.
"It was a challenging day for everyone," said Illinois head Coach Renee Slone. "The golf course played tough. The wind was blowing hard on top of the hill and opposite of what we practiced in yesterday making the holes significantly different. However, we will be a lot more confident in tomorrows round and believe and move forward."
Overall the Illini played a solid first round, collectively posting 5 birdies throughout the day. Starting on the back nine, the Illini fared better on the front nine holes where the team collectively posted four less bogeys.
