WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Illinois (647) opened the conference tournament in sixth place after a first round score of 323, but currently sits in eighth place after posting a 324 during Friday's second round at the challenging Kampen Course. Tournament host No. 11 Purdue (609) leads second-place No. 25 Ohio State (627) and the 11-team field by 18 strokes.
Freshmen Hailey Koschmann and Nora Lucas paced the Orange and Blue on day one and are both tied for 11th place with 36-hole totals of 157. Koschmann fired a 77 in the morning and an 80 in the afternoon, while Lucas shot an opening round 81 followed by a team-low round of 76 in the second round on the par-72 6,333-yard course.
Freshman Samantha Sloan (163) was tied for fourth after firing an opening round 77, but fell into a tie for 32nd after shooting an 86 in the afternoon. Senior Nancy Featherstone (170) turned in back-to-back rounds of 85 on Friday which placed her in a tie for 57th.
No. 20 Michigan State (629) is in third place and two strokes in front of fourth-place Michigan (631). Northwestern and Wisconsin are tied for fifth with 36-holes totals of 639.
Purdue's Maude-Aimee LeBlanc (150) leads all individuals after consecutive rounds of 75.
