COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Fighting Illini women’s golf team concluded play at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational on Sunday, with its lowest round of the touranament at 305 (+17). Illinois' three round total of 927 (+63) resulted in sixth place finish for the Orange and Blue. In addition, the 927 was a 29 stroke improvement from last year's result at the Scarlet course and their best finish there since 2006.

Ember Schuldt produced her best finish of the spring thus far, jumping three spots today to come in fifth place. The senior recorded a final round 74 (+2) for a 226 (+10) overall total, marking her best finish at the tournament in her four year career.

“Ember played another very solid round of golf today," said Illinois head coach Renee Slone. "She finished strong and in a great way to head into Big Tens. She hit the ball well the entire tournament and played very smart golf and made good decisions.”

Erin Ahern ended the tournament the way she started, shooting a final round 79 (+7). Her tournament total of 234 (+18) was good for 27th. Freshman Emily Joers followed closely behind with a 236 (+20) tying her for 34th place. Redshirt junior Sam Postillion rebounded quite nicely on the final day, shooting a one-over-par to finish at 237 (+21).

Stephanie Miller tallied an 81 in her final round to wind up at 240 (+24). Finally, Michelle Mayer's final round 79 contributed to the team total today, as the junior finished up at 251 (+35).

“We finished the tournament strong today with our best round being our last one. Of the four scores that counted, we played the back nine a total of 3 over as a team, which is great momentum boost heading into Big Tens,” stated Slone. “This next week we will be very specific and diligent with our practices. Tuesday will be our main day and we will work on a lot of short game, specifically really tight lies, and using the putter from all walks of the green”.

The No. 31 Buckeyes of Ohio State (892, +28) reigned victorious on their home course, defeating last year’s champion No. 24 Michigan State and No. 42 Kent State by eight strokes (900, +36).

With the conclusion of the regular season, the Orange and Blue head to the Big Ten Championships next weekend.  They will be held on April 25-27 in French Lick, Ind.
