Illinois in Eighth After Two Rounds of St. Croix Collegiate Classic

St. Croix, Virgin Islands - The Illinois women's golf team fell to eighth place after shooting a second-round score of 328 today at the inaugural St. Croix Collegiate Classic, hosted by Xavier University at the par 72, 6,020-yard Carambola Golf Club. Southern Methodist leads the 14-team tournament with a two-round score of 607, 13 strokes ahead of Baylor, who is in second at 620. There is a three-way tie for third at 636 among Xavier, Boston College and Illinois State. Leading the way for the Illini today was sophomore Megan Godfrey. Godfrey tallied a second-round score of 3-over par 75. She moves into a tie for fifth place in the 82-player field with a 36-hole total of 154, (+10). Illinois also had senior Marla Cox score in the 70s, shooting a 6-over 78 in today's second round. Cox is also in the Top 10 individually, tied for ninth place at 155 (+11). Senior Michelle Carroll, who led the Illini with a 76 in yesterday's opening round, is still in the process of recoving from offseason surgery and withdrew from the tournament. The third and final round of the 54-hole St. Croix Collegiate Classic will be held Sunday.
