The Illinois women's golf team remained in 12th after 36 holes at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge, held at the par-73, 6,349-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club course in Valdosta, Ga. The Illini posted a second-round total of 320 on Monday, for a 36-hole total of 633. Coastal Carolina leads the event through two rounds with a total of 600, after being the only team to have a sub-300 round during day two, shooting a 297.

"We did not have the round we were looking for," head coach Renee Slone said. "Conditions were a little bit more challenging. Today was windy, so that did play a role in the round. However, it wasn't anything we're not use to, that we don't in play a regular basis at Stone Creek or at the Orange and Blue course."

Freshman Ember Schuldt leads Illinois with a 36-hole total of 158 after her second consecutive six-over par 79 and is tied for 37th. Junior Samantha Sloan (159) had the low round on the day for Illinois, carding a five-over par 78 and is tied for 43rd. Along with Sloan, junior Hailey Koschmann (159) is also tied for 43rd after a second round eight-over par 81.

"Ember and Sammi both avoided big numbers today," Slone said. "They were able to minimize their mistakes and that's something over the course of the past two days that has hurt us."

For the second round, sophomore Crystal Smith (160) had a nine-over par 82, while junior Nora Lucas (162) finished with an 11-over par 84.

"Tomorrow's a new day," Slone said. "Hopefully we can put together a strong finish to the tournament, pass a few teams with a good solid round and finish on a high note."

The third and final round starts tomorrow, March 1, with a shotgun start of 8:30 a.m. CT. For continuing coverage check fightingillini.com, including a full recap of the final round. To follow the action live, visit golfstatresults.com.
