Illini Tied for Ninth After Day One at Westbrook Inv.

Peoria, Ariz. - Through 36 holes of the Westbrook Spring Invitational, the Illinois women's golf team are currently tied for ninth place in the 14-team field. The Fighting Illini recorded a team total of 585 (+9) and are tied with fellow Big Ten school Iowa. Stephanie Miller leads the Orange and Blue as she recorded both her rounds under par today. The freshman is tied for sixth with a total of 141 (-3).
"We got off to a solid start today but just struggled coming in to finish off the first round in the last five to six holes" said Illinois head coach Renee Slone. "After that, in the second round, we just never really got over the hump. However, tomorrow is a new day and we are going to take the things we learned today and put them into play."
Miller produced rounds of 70 and 71, respectively. The freshman recorded six birdies on the day and had the third best score on par 5's through the first two rounds, scoring a collective -3 on those particular holes.
Ember Schuldt shot two rounds of 73 each to finish at +2. Her 146 total puts the senior in a tie for 31st. Redshirt junior Samantha Postillion and junior Erin Ahern each contributed a 149 (+5) to the overall team total.
Leading the competition at the invite was 19th-ranked Oregon (553, -23), followed closely by 35th- ranked Ohio State (559, -17). Individually, Ohio State and Oregon have contenders vying for the top three spots. Ohio State's Jessica Porvasnik leads with a 132 (-12) as Oregon's Cathleen Santoso and Cassy Isagawa trail by one and four strokes, respectively.
