Rick Slone has an extensive background in the golf world. His proven history in teaching and promotion has given him the necessary skills to assist wife and head coach, Renee Slone, with the University of Illinois women's golf team. He is currently in his third season as the assistant coach at Illinois.
His professional experience extends to different clubs around the country. From 1998-2000, he served as the Director of Golf at the Carolina National Golf Club in Bolivia, N.C., where he instructed over 300 students annually from all skill levels. From 2000-02, he served as the General Manager and Director of Golf at the Country Club of West Georgia in Villa Rica, Ga., where he energized a teaching program of over 500 students. Prior to moving to Urbana-Champaign, he served as the Director of Golf Operations for the Connestee Falls Country Club in Brevard, N.C. where he secured over 20 charitable and corporate golf events. Most recently, he worked at the Willow Pond Golf Course in Rantoul in addition to his coaching duties at the University of Illinois.
His impressive career includes several highlights. He has served as the tournament director for over 10 professional tour events on the Senior PGA, Futures, Hooters, and TearDrop Tours. He promoted the second largest Junior Clinic in the United States in 1991 and 1992 and created the National Golf Foundation recognized Christmas Package promotion for membership facilities. The two-time nominee for Merchandiser of the Year in the Carolinas Section is also a Class A PGA member in good standing.
As well as participating in teaching and coaching summits, he has taken teaching seminars from Butch Harmon, Jim McLean, Hank Haney, and Dave Pelz. His community activities include helping coordinate the "Hootie & the Blowfish Monday after the Masters Tournament" since 1996 and "Clubs in the Classroom," which introduces hundreds of young children to the game of golf, since 1998.
While serving in the United States Air Force, Slone majored in Business Administration at the University of Nebraska and earned a degree in Construction Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. From 1982-1991, the Warsaw, Ind., native was awarded medals for his service in the Air Force in the following areas, Meritorious Service, Commendation, Foreign Conflict, Good Conduct, and Expert Marksman.
