Illinois Offers Free Kids Club Membership to 5,000 In-State Kids
Aug. 30, 2010
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will make its Fighting Illini Kids Club free to the first 5,000 kids that register at FightingIllini.com. Registration began on Monday, Aug. 30 and will continue until the 5,000 free slots are filled.
"We feel it's important, as the University of Illinois, that we continue to find ways to reach out to our great Fighting Illini fans throughout the Land of Lincoln," Assistant Athletics Director Chris Hanna said. "We have done that through meet & greets, coaches appearances throughout the state, and other initiatives. We felt this was a great time to connect with families across the entire state by giving kids a chance to show their Fighting Illini pride at no cost whatsoever."
The free kid's club membership includes a membership card for free admission to all regular season home events for Illinois volleyball, soccer, women's basketball, gymnastics, wrestling, track, baseball, and softball. It also includes three newsletters mailed throughout the year and additional e-mails including news and special Fighting Illini promotions. Club members will have the opportunity to purchase a Fighting Illini Kids Club T-shirt if they wish to display their Fighting Illini spirit.
Once a child registers, it will take two weeks to receive the free membership card and first newsletter. Kids that register for the club free of charge at FightingIllini.com prior to Friday, September 10 will receive their membership card in time to use it for free admission to the Illinois-Penn State volleyball match. Penn State has not lost a match in more than two seasons and, with both teams ranked in the Top 10, Illinois will try to make history at that match by knocking off the Nittany Lions.
"You can't start a program like this with a better event than the Illinois-Penn State match," Hanna said. "We are excited to begin this program with an event that will definitely rank among the top events of the year for Illinois Athletics in the 2010-11 season."
Out-of-state kids will have an opportunity to join the Fighting Illini Kid's Club through a paid membership. Out-of-state plans include the membership card, Olympic sports admissions, newsletters, e-mails, and a Fighting Illini Kids Club T-shirt. The cost is $30. Once the 5,000 free in-state memberships are filled, the athletic department will announce options for any in-state children that wish to register on a paid basis. There will be a short renewal period in the spring/summer of 2011 for kids that sign up this year, followed by an open renewal period to fill any open spots.
