CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois announced its 2013-14 schedule Tuesday and the Illini will host 16 games at State Farm Center - including five in the month of November - participate in the 2013 Cancun Challenge and have seven weekend home games, including four Big Ten contests.
Season tickets are on sale now at the Illinois Ticket Office and by phone at 1-866-ILLINI-1 for the extremely affordable price of $25 each, or $1.56 per home game. Tickets will be available on FightingIllini.com later this week.
"I'm really excited about this season and our schedule is certainly one reason," Illinois head coach Matt Bollant said. "It's great have a bunch of home games early in the season so our fans can see how exciting our team is going to be, then we will definitely be tested in Cancun and throughout the month of December.
"When you add eight home Big Ten games to the mix, the value of our $25 season tickets is just off the chart. To be able to see 16 games for that price is incredible. We had great fan support last season but like everything else in our program, it's an area that we need to continue to grow. We know that Illini fans love basketball and they will love how we play."
In his second year at the helm, Bollant's squad won't leave the state of Illinois until its Thanksgiving trip to Cancun and opens Big Ten play with three of its first four games at State Farm Center. The Illini also return games to Colorado and Georgia, who played in Champaign a year ago, and visit Georgia Tech for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Illinois welcomes NAIA foe Cardinal Stritch to State Farm Center for its lone exhibition on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. The Illini then open the regular season at Bradley on Nov. 8 before returning home for five straight games. Bollant's crew then heads to Cancun, Mexico, for three games in the Cancun Challenge Riviera Tournament against Arizona State, Arkansas State and North Carolina Nov. 28-30.
After returning home, the Illini head to Georgia Tech on Dec. 4 then swing out west to face Colorado on Saturday, Dec. 7. After the five-game road trip, Illinois returns home to face Seton Hall on Monday, Dec. 9. Following a weeklong break for final exams, UT Martin comes to State Farm Center on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Illinois wraps up the non-conference slate with a trip to Georgia on Dec. 28. The Illini upset the sixth-ranked Bulldogs 70-59 in Champaign a year ago thanks to 27 points and 19 rebounds from Karisma Penn.
The Orange and Blue open the 16-game Big Ten season by hosting Wisconsin on Friday, Jan. 3. Illinois faces Wisconsin, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Ohio State and Minnesota once each during the Big Ten schedule, with the Badgers, Nittany Lions, Boilermakers at State Farm Center. The Illini play home-and-home with Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska.
